Agronomy Unit
Seed production unit: This Kendra is actively engaged in the production of seed of improved and newly released varieties of different crops at their instructional farm (4.0 ha only). Seed of wheat, gram, soybean, maize are produced and provided to farmers directly and to RSSC which ultimately reached on farmer’s fields.
Horticulture Unit
The district is having enough potential of growing fruit plants. KVK in collaboration with Department of Horticulture (GoR) are increasing the area under fruit plantation. To meet the demand of fruit plants the KVK initiated a horticulture nursery in the year 1989-90. This horticulture nursery is accredited as IV star nursery for Mango, Guava, Aonla, Sapota and Lemon by National Horticulture Board, Ministry of Agriculture, GoI. Recently this nursery is strengthened by NHM which resulted in establishment of poly house, model and small nursery at the centre. The Kendra has well developed mother orchards of mango in 2.2 ha (varieties- Dasheri, Langra, Mallika, Rajbhog, Bombay Green, Amrapali, Neelam, Ratna, Sindhu, Alphanso, Totapuri and Chosa), Guava in 1.7 ha (varieties-Allahbadi Safeda & L-49), Aonla in 0.4 ha (varieties-Banarsi, Chakaiya, NA-7), Sapota in 0.2 ha (varieties- Kalipatti & Cricket Ball) and Lime 0.2 ha (Kagji). Kendra not only fulfil the demand of quality planting material of Banswara district farmer’s but also the farmers of adjoining districts of Rajasthan and neighbouring districts of Gujarat and M.P. also benefited by providing fruit plants of various varieties of Mango, Guava, Lime, Papaya, Sapota, Aonla and ornamental plants at university rates.
Poultry Unit
Krishi vigyan kendra is having a commercial unit of poultry birds established in the year 2014 under naip project fund. The poultry unit is well equipped with brooders and improved feeders and waters for chicks and grower birds. Rearing and vaccination of mostly of pratapdhan breed poultry chicks of day old age to six weeks done by this unit approx. 12000 annually. Unit supplies these chicks to poultry growers within and near by districts viz. Dungarpur, pratapgarh. Practical training also organized for rural youth and farmers on brooding, rearing birds and vaccination.
Vermicompost Unit
Krishi Vigyan Kendra is having two small vermicompost units established in the year 2006 & 2010. KVK supplied 450 kg vermi cast to more than 300 farmers through various government department and other agencies for establishment of vermicompost units at farmer’s field and KVK also produced more than 60 tones of vermicompost which was either sold to farmers or used in KVK horticulture nursery.
Soil & Water Testing Lab
The soil & water testing laboratory was constructed from the kvk revolving fund. This laboratory is well equipped & furnished by the fund of icar in the year 2006-07. Till now 4242 soil and water samples have been analyzed. Soil health cards were provided to 4142 farmers of 99 villages of the district.
Post Harvest Technology Lab
Initially the unit was established with kvk funds however, this unit was strengthened by fund received from nhm during the 2007. Under this unit in all 12 trainings were organized by which 390 farmers and farm women benefited. In this unit facilities of processing of soybean, mango, aonla, vegetables and preparation of papad, mungodi, chips etc. Is available. As an impact of these training programmes 70 trainees established their own units. Since last five years efforts have been made to promote value addition of mango which is a major fruit crop of the district. Various ango products such as mango papad, mango pickle, mango squash/ green mango quash were prepared during training and sold in the market.
Fish Hatchery, Fish Processing Lab And Fish Ornamental Unit
Banswara being a land of hundred Islands there is ample scope of fish production. Keeping this in view a fish seed rearing unit was established in 2006. This unit further strengthened with the help of National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP). At present portable hatchery, fish rearing ponds, well furnished fish processing and ornamental fish production unit are in operation. A total 21 trainings were organized by KVK by which 476 farmers were benefited. The participants learnt the art of production of fish, pond stocking, processing of fish products, ornamental fish production and aquarium fabrications etc. As an impact of these training programmes large number of trainees are earning their livelihood through aquaculture. During reporting period 3 crore fish seed spawn of IMC were produced and provided to 120 farmers.
Plant Health Clinic
Plant health clinic is established in 2012 in which various disease and pest damaged plants and its parts are diagnosed & appropriate solutions are given to the farmers.
