Capacity utilization and economic performance of different training units
Seed Production Unit
This kendra is actively engaged in the production of seed of improved and newly released varieties of different crops at their instructional farm (6.0 ha only). Around 1922.99 q seed of wheat, gram, soybean, maize, brinjal and bottleguard crops were produced and provided to farmers directly and to rssc which Ultimately reached on farmers fields.
Mother Orchard and Nursery Unit
The district is having favorable agro-climate and potential of growing fruit plants. Kvk in collaboration with department of horticulture (gor) are increasing the area under fruit plantation. To meet the demand of fruit plants the kvk initiated a horticulture nursery in the year 1989-90. Recently this nursery is strengthened with financial support from nhm which resulted in establishment of poly house, model and small nurseries.
The kendra has well developed mother orchards of mango in 2.2 ha (varieties-dasheri, langra, malika, rajbhog, bombaygreen, amrapali, neelam, ratna, sindhu, alphanso, totapuri and chosa), guava in 1.7 ha (varieties-allahbadi safeda & l-49), aonla in 0.4 ha (varieties-banarsi, chakaiya, na-7), sapota in 0.2 ha (varieties-kalipati & cricketball), lime 0.2 ha (kagji) and sweet orange in 0.2 ha (kinnow).
Kendra is not only fulfilling the demand of quality planting material of banswara district’s but also adjoining districts of rajasthan and neighbouring districts of gujarat and m.p. Centre supplied 186176 fruit plants of various varieties of mango, guava, lime, papaya, sapota, aonla and ornamental plants at reasonable price during last five years. In addition to this nearly 932 q quality and nutritious fruits were also made available to peoples from mother orchards during reporting period.
Vermicompost unit
Krishi Vigyan Kendra is having two small vermicompost units established in the year 2006 & 2010. These units are producing about 230 kg vermicast and about 16.5 tones of vermicompost annually. KVK provided 1207 kg vermicast to more than 813 farmers through various Government departments and other agencies for establishment of vermicompost units at farmer’s field and KVK also produced more than 80 tones of vermicompost which was either sold to farmers or used in KVK horticulture nursery during reporting period.
Cutting And Tailoring Unit
For entrepreneurship development among young farm women, due emphasis was given to develop skill in cutting and tailoring to them. Eight training programmes were organized in which 167 rural girls were trained. Out of which many rural girls are self employed.
Fruit And Vegetable Preservation And Food Processing Unit
Initially this unit was established with kvk funds, by course of time, this was strengthened with fund received from nhm during the 2007. Under this unit in all 5 trainings were organized and 165 farmers and farm women were benefited. In this unit facility of processing of soybean, mango, aonla, vegetables and preparation of papad, magodi, chips etc.is available.
after completion of trainings 18 trainees established their own units. since last five years efforts were made to promote value addition of mango which is a major fruit crop of the district. various mango products such as mango papad, mango pickle, mango squash/ green mango squash were prepared during training and sold in the market.many retailers are selling mango by-products in banswara and also selling these products in adjoining districts.
Soil and Water Testing Laboratory
The soil & water testing laboratory was established from the kvk revolving fund. This unit is further equipped & furnished by the fund of icar in the year 2006-07. During reporting period 2994 soil and water samples have been analysed. Soil health cards were provided to 2846 farmers of 39 villages.
Fish Hatchery & Fish Processing Unit
Banswara being a land of hundred Islands there is ample scope of fish production.Many farmers are engaged in fisheries activities but the productivity from water bodies was less due to unavailability of quality fish seed. Keeping this in view, a fish seed rearing unit was established in 2007. This unit was further strengthened with the help of National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP). At present portable hatchery, fish rearing ponds, well furnished fish processing and ornamental fish production units are in operation.
A total 45 trainings were organized by KVK and 1105 farmers were benefited.
The participants learnt the art of production of fish, pond stocking, processing of fish products, ornamental fish production and aquarium fabrications etc. As an impact of these training programmes large numbers of trainees are earning their livelihood through aquaculture. During reporting period 2.6 crores fish seed spawn of IMC were produced and provided to 110 farmers.
Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna
To augament agriculture growth rate of 4 per cent, a project for popularization of improved varieties, increase in srr and recommended practices of pulse and oilseed crops was sanctioned to the university in which kvk, banswara is also a partner. The programme is initially for three years (2011-2014). However, the project is still continuing. Under this programme flds and seed production progrmme of blackgram, soybean, gram and summer greengram were taken on 1074 farmer’s field. In the operational area, pulses and oilseeds worth rs. 244.02 lac were produced in last four years. The seed replacement rate of blackgram, gram and summer greengram reached up to 50-55 and in soybean 85 per cent in adopted villages, where as srr of pulses and soybean in the district is only 29 and 65 per cent, respectively. Seed production of these crops on farmers field will enhance the srr of pulses and (soybean) in the district. The out lay of the project for the district is rs. 77.00 lac.

National Horticulture Mission
To promote horticultural activities, i.e., fruits and vegetables cultivation in the district mission director, nhm, govt. Of rajasthan provided a grant worth rs. 42.61 lac to kvk, banswara under nhm programme. Under this, one model & one small nursery was established at kvk. From these nurseries kvk made available 1.86 lac quality planting material to 4500-5000 farmers.this venture helped in promoting horticulture development in the district.
The centre also laid out flds on fruits (12.8 ha) and vegetables (95.5 ha) and benefitted 434 farm families under nhm.farmers earned additional income of rs. 20000-50000/- by adopting vegetable cultivation just from 0.2 ha area. The success story of one of the vegetable growers is cited on succeeding pages.
Rajasthan Skills and Livelihood Development Corporation
The state government under rsldc programme sanctioned rs. 13.49 lac during last five years for organizing skill oriented training programmes to rural youth (boys and girls). Kvk organized 12 training programmes of 30-90 days on nursery management, fish rearing, tailor ladies, diesel engine-repair & maintenance and krishi jankar.
The total number of beneficiaries was 263. Out of these 144 have established their own enterprises and /or working elsewhere and earning rs. 5000-9000/- per month.with the financial assistance of rsldc 167 stiching machines were provided to trainees of tailor ladies. One of the success cases is cited on succeedind pages.
Agriculture technology management agency under atma, kvk organized short duration (5 days) technical training programmes for mitra krishak selected by department of agriculture, govt. Of rajasthan. The funds released for the programme were rs. 7.69 lac. The number of beneficiaries were 685. These mitra krishak motivates other contact farmers for adoption of technologies and they also works as resource persons in the training programmes and running “farmers schools”. Kvk is in regular touch with mitra krishak for their upgradation of recent developments in farm technologies and thus helpful in rapid spread of technologies in targeted areas.
National Centre for Organic Farming
Vocational trainings for skill development were organized for farmers, bio-fertilizer manufacturers and extension functionaries on organic farming for environmental safety and crop production. In these training programmes 180 participants werw trained (2 -14 days) on preparation of organic farms, quality control and production of organic inputs. Total rs. 3.31 lac received from ncof, ghaziabad to organize these activities.
Seed Village Scheme
Kvk got a programme for development seed village for wheat and soybean under seed village scheme of govt. Of india for farmers of banswara district with outlay of fund rs. 4.13 lac. Under this scheme 200 farmers were benefited.
Project on Water Management
The kvk has taken up training cum demonstration programme on scaling-up of water productivity in agriculture for farmers of banswara district and received rs. 1.74 lac from ars, kota. Three training courses on enhancing water use efficiency were organized and benifitted 195 farmers across the district.
Collaborative Activities With Icar Institutes And Saus Under Tsp Head
KVK, banswara is not only providing support to icar and other saus institutions, but also providing technological backstopping to many institutes in carrying out research and transfer of technology programmes in banswara district under tsp component of their projects.
